Driver side heated mirror 850 1994

It seems as if my driver side mirror is not heating up with the electric defrost turned on. Passenger side and rear window work fine, think I need to replace element. Since I have never been in this part of the car before, any suggestions about what to tear into first and if the element is seperate from the mirror? Is this a pain in the neck to do or a quick and easy fix?
