POwer Window motor S40-V40 2001

I have to replace the motor on drivers side power window. Can you just replace the motor,or does the regulator & motor both need to be replaced at the same time?My shop manual says both, but the motor & regulator can be purchased separately or already assembled.Anyone got a suggestion which way to go?
Thanks
Dennis
