Volvo Alarm Info ? 850 1996

As an 850 newbie in the Antipodies with a recently imported 850 ex Singapore... It did not ship with any remotes for central lock or alarm (common enough with imported 2nd hand cars over here) but would be surprised the car in Singapore did not have an alarm fitted at some stage. So my questions are:

- How can I tell if it actually has an alarm already ? Where is the module normally installed ? Any distinctive markings ? NB: It has a red LED and an IR Receiver (?) mounted on top of the dash, centred at the base of the windscreen - doesn't look aftermarket.

- Also, assuming that it already has an alarm, is it possible to buy new remotes from the dealer (or aftermarket learning remotes) and program to suit the car ? Is there a simple procedure to accomplish this ?
