The alternate experience: almost trouble-free V70-XC70 1999

Sorry to hear of your continuing problems. We have had the opposite experience: my wife's 1999 V70 has been almost flawless. The only problems were caused by environmental conditions: a rock cracked the windshield and we drove over debris on the freeway that cut a tire and destroyed a wheel well skirt. Minor issues with interior trim have been handled by the dealer efficiently and politely. Even the infamous turn signals are a non-issue: I've cleaned the bulb and socket contacts with emery cloth and the lights work perfectly thereafter. We specifically bought a car with minimum options to try to reduce future problems (manual transmission, manual seats, no sun roof). Maybe simple is better...
