Over heating 850 1996

Our snow finally ended, really wet and hard to shovel. The 1/2 inch of ice didn't help any.

Your over heating is really perplexing. At highway speed, the air going through the radiator should be plenty to keep things cool and under control, even with the fan off. If the ECT fails when hot, that would mean that the coolant temp is just fine.

I cannot imagine the water pump suddenly failing, which is the other alternative. If you had access to an infrared temp gauge, that would tell you the actual coolant temp.

If I had known you had a spare ECT sensor, I would have told you to swap it out when you did the thermostat.
