timing belt 850 1993

Second question:

My 93 850 GLT has 88500 miles and I bought it from a Volvo dealer in NH last month. I'm wondering if I should have the timing belt changed or if there's a way to find out when it was done, if it was done recently at all, and if it needs to be done.

The last car I owned, a Honda, the previous owner left all the service records in the car, so I know exactly when the belt had been replaced. I know it's a bad thing if the timing belt goes, and a friend had it happen to his Toyota and lost the car. I don't want mine to go. What do I do?
