Dual zone hvac controls 850 1997

I love the ECC, set it and forget it.

In your case, there are a few things to check out. You need to put the controls on AUTO, recirc off and AC on. Then start the car. If the 2 lights on the switches blink orange 20 times, the ECC has a fault and will not be in the 'auto' mode. You can override this by setting the dials yourself, but that defeats the purpose.

Your air is hot on the driver's side, which can mean that the vent damper is broken or the temp select in the ECC unit is bad. The only 'fix' I have known for a bad temp select is to replace the ECC unit.

But, you can clean the cabin temp sensors behind the front seat grab handles. Usually a good first start. Remove the grab handle, then carefully pull out the sensor and clean it. Both sides of the car, they tend to get filled with dust bunnies.

The vents are a bit harder. Get a Haynes manual, it is for a 1995 but the locations of the motors is still valid. The codes for the ECC starting in 1996 can only be read by the dealer, of course. It might be possible that the plastic surround on the vent damper metal rod has broken and it can be re-glued and bailing wired to work again. If you remove a motor, do NOT try to bench test it, it will break the park settings.

Removal of the ECC from the dash is easy. Remove the radio, then pull the ECC out from behind. Once it lets go, it will try to fly into the back seat!
