855 Jacking Points 850 1997

Make a beer run before you start.

You won't need both front wheels off the ground, just the right front. So, jack the car up using the subframe, then place the jack stand in the appropriate place.

Before you jack up the car, loosen the lug nuts a little. Remove the S belt and shroud over the T belt. Pull the spark plugs and count the teeth in the T belt between the two cams - easier than guessing after the new belt goes on. With the plugs out, turning the crank gets much easier!

I use a set of needle nose vice grips to hold the fender flap open.

You probably only need to replace the belts and the tensioner roller. Inspect the water pump bearings by trying to wiggle the shaft side to side with your fingers. Make sure that there is no dried antifreeze on the block. With good antifreeze maintenance, the pump should easily last to your next Tbelt change.

Good luck,

Klaus
