Power Steering Noise V70-XC70 1997

My V70 at 70,000 miles has developed a grinding noise from the power steering on left lock when cornering. It appears worse from cold, and I think the steering is getting generally heavier, I've checked the fluid level. Is this a known problem with the V70?
