Replacing the oil separator and PCV system 850

When I bought the car a couple of weeks ago, I had a small amount of oil seepage from the engine and a little smoke from the dipstick hole. I cleaned the flame trap and it almost disappeared -- I wiped the oil pan down then and it isn't oily anymore, and it's no longer spotting the driveway. But I know the oil separator has never been cleaned or replaced, because I have all the records and I can see where the mechanic kept recommending it over and over again (in vain).

I want 5 years out of this vehicle. Replacement of the PCV system is a necessity, I think.
