S60 Muffler Heat Shield S60 2001

S60's heat shield that is above the rear muffler has started to deteriorate and rattle. It appears to be crimped to the seam on the muffler and some of the mounting material is still intact, so I can't just grab the shield and remove the entire thing. I can't get in close enough to cut the remaining shield where it mounts to the muffler. Is there a heat-resistant material that I can wedge between the muffler and the heat shield to stop the rattle? I thought about fiberglass insulation, but didn't know if it would hold enough moisture to damage the muffler. Car has 165,000 miles on it.
