I just turn them to "parking lights" and then throw the fogs on ;-) looks really nice after a fresh wash and wax and when going for a cruise as the sun is starting to set. Just make sure you don't forget about the parking lights when you turn the car off....they won't turn off with the key switch.

But yes, the dealer only solution is what you have if you want to disable.
