The first set of oil plug washers I got were copper. I exchanged them for the aluminum ones. If you have Al washers it sounds like you have the correct gear. The filter houseing seems durable, that was a concern of mine also. I used a strap type wrench the first oil change and have been able to remove the housing by hand since.
