Which Alternator Does my car have, 100 AMP or 120 AMP? Does it matter? S70 1999

If it is a one wire alternator, it does not really matter, in 80s 740s the regular models had an 80 amp, the turbos 100 amps. I had no issues putting a 100 amp in our '88 745 GLE.

Get the higher rating.

The voltage regulators looked the same on both models.

Are you having troubles?

On high mileage cars, the brushes get shorter and tend to stick due to less spring pressure.

Any good electrical shop can help you.

When my daughter lost her alternator in Michigan a few years ago, the AAA guy had his friend open his shop on a Sunday - he did not have the correct brushes, so he ground down a larger set and sent her on her way.

740 alternators last about 210k - we had two fail at almost exactly that mileage!
