Vibration, sound at idle in gear S40-V40 2001

My new (and I mean less than 2xxx miles new) S40 developed a low vibration literally overnight.

When in gear, at idle, with foot on the brake, there is a low pitch throaty noise (sounds like an exhaust at the end of its life) coupled with a vibration which can be felt through the steering wheel and brake pedal (feels like you would expect a car with a broken engine or transmission mount). Anyway, brought it to the dealer who had it for two days without being able to ID the problem. At the end of the first day, he claimed "s40s sometimes have a little vibration". However, this didn't develop over time and in fact the loaner s40 they gave me did not exhibit this problem, despite having three times as many miles.

Dealer says that they're going to have me bring it in for a factory rep to look at. Here are my questions:

1. Has anyone experienced this before?

2. Is it likely the factory engineer will be any better equiped to find the problem?

I'd appreciate any input!

Patrick
