Feelings on Extended (non volvo) warranties. 850 96

Looking at 2 turbos, 96 with 64k and 95 with 46k both now off warranty.

Would you recommend purchasing an aftermarket warranty on either or both of these cars. The ones I've seen cover most of the major problems you could have and some of the minor stuff.

They are about 950 for 2/30k or 1250 for 3/45 or 40 forget right now.

How expensive are repairs. How much can you do yourself on these cars, an avid mechanic who has never worked on a volvo before. (actually changed a waterpump and alt on a mid 80s 240 when I was in college). but definitely never on a an 850.
