Strange stalling after high speed driving. 850 1994

Ocasionally after "high speed" driving, my car stalls and dies when I come to a complete stop. It doesn't happen very often, and is very sporadic (not sure of spelling) I am having 313 tranny problems, and this is the only thing I can think of, that possibly the car is not downshifting after high speed driving. Does that make any sense? I feel like I should be proud to drive my car, and it kinda embarassing to come to a stoplight and die. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. - Cory
