Proximity Sensors and Rain S80 2008

The rainy season has started here on the North Coast of California, and Annika, our fairly-new-to-us S80, is demonstrating an interesting problem: when it rains, the proximity sensors get all worried that the car's going to run into the water and hurt itself. It's not consistent, which makes me think the problem is water running/getting caught in front of the signal sending unit, and bouncing the signal back immediately.

Is this a known "feature," or a sign that I need to look at something?
