Please help!My car won't start S70 1998

Thanks in advance for any advice. I purchased my '98 S70 turbo in Sept. 2000. I took it to a registered dealer for it's 30,000 mi. maintenance service in Dec. 2000. Now the car won't start. When I turn the key, the dashboard lights come on, but if I try to use any electrical devices, eg the seat adjustment, radio, etc., a whirring noise is emitted from the center console. Isn't the car a bit young for the battery to have died already? And don't the lights indicate that the battery is alive? If the battery is almost dead now, shouldn't that have been discovered at the dealer in Dec?
