Feedback noise from radio V70-XC70 2001

Anyone know what would a radio to make a high-pitched feedback-type noise when playing AM stations? It's the "premium sound system" that I got as an option on my 2001 V70 T5, and the noise is so intolerable that my 4-year old screams to turn it off when I try to play the local all-news station. It happens some days, but not others. (Of course, it was not happening when I took it in for service, so they couldn't find anything wrong!) I never had this problem in other cars, so I don't think it's a problem with the reception in my area (San Francisco).

I'd appreciate any insights. I'm having a hard time not being able to listen to the news... Thanks

Susan
