rough start 850 1997

Hello:

I have had a rough start problem twice on cold mornings (25 - 30 def. F). Once for my wife and then for me on the morning we were leaving for vacation. The car crancked fine. It would start to catch for about 2 seconds and then die. After letting it sit for some time (half hour) it started and ran rough. There was no indication of flooding (no black smoke) One thing noticed was that when the car was cold (30deg F and only having crancked it once or twice) the temp gage was at normal running location.

I came back from vacation today, I really needed to thaw, the cooling fan ran as soon as the car started. The temp gage was one quarter up the scale. The car ran rough for less then a minuite, it was 50 deg F outside. I wiggled the wire coming from the temp sensor located at the upper hose, block side, and the fan stopped running. This all took place in less then two minuites.

The car was purchased used Dec. 2000, private sale, very nice person. He had volvo do the 100k checkup. While in, the dealer replaced the coolent temp sensor. The check engine light had come on. The check engine light came on again when I picked up the car. The dealer said it was the same error code as the day befor. They replaced the thermostat ("just to be safe"?) and cleared the code.

Any help would be greatly appriciated,

frank
