Decision time for our S60? S60

Hi All,
Looking for a little perspective here...

My wife loves her 2002 S60 AWD. We have been nursing the transmission for a while (hard shift, now some slipping between 3rd and 4th). It needs 4 tires, and the rear muffler/tail pipe assembly is probably not going to last long. The car has 220k on it; uses a little oil (very minor leak at turbo) but is otherwise fairly sound. We live in northern New England and she commutes 110 miles a day. No rust, wiring or interior trim issues.

We hear quotes of $4k for a rebuilt transmission. My question is: Is it worth it?

I tried to get her looking at a new car today (Ford C Max hybrid). It just strengthened her resolve to keep the car she has...

Will we get another 100k out this car with a rebuilt tranny?

Thanks in advance,
Rod
