A/C stalls engine when returning to idle S60

This problem does not involve throwing an engine code. It only happens when running the A/C. I'm cruising along at 2000 RPM, and I take my foot off the accelerator, then engine shudders as it passes thru 1000 RPM, sometimes it stalls. Just sitting in my driveway in Park, the same problem occurs when I rev it up to 2000, then on the rev down the engine shudders every time. I shut off the A/C and it runs smooth.

What could be causing this problem? 2004 S60 (non Turbo) 5 -cyl. w/ 120,000 miles, and all scheduled Volvo maintenance up to date.
