Bottoming out with passengers in rear/full trunk 850 1993

Whenever I have passengers in the rear seat or have a full trunk, my 850 "bottoms out" with an occasional "scraping" or "crunching" noise. My mechanic tells me I don't need new shocks although the car has 200,000 miles and shocks have never been replaced. Is this a suspension problem and how can I get this fixed?

Other than that, this is a great car that I'd love to have for another 100K miles. Any feedback would be most appreciated. Thanks!
