2000 xc70 oil leak under timing belt cover V70-XC70 2000

my 2000 XC70 has roughly 155k miles and runs pretty well but ive been hunting for a oil leak that is messing up my garage/driveway.

it is running down off the control arm on the passenger side and it's coming from behind the timing belt cover. when i pulled the cover off the belt was a little wet with oil. it was all black and smudgy and i couldn't see anything, so i cleaned off all the muck and the belts and all surfaces are dry and cleaned but i still cant see where its coming from. the view is pretty restricted from above and below but...

any guesses? where is this oil dripping from? it's enough that about every 400 miles (a tankful) i need half-a-quart.

btw, the timing belt is staying dry with the cover removed, but it makes me nervous driving without the timing cover installed.
