Re: Oil Leak???Oil fumes/steam 850 1993

Hi Jeff -

remove the throttle cover and notice the black tube running along/below the fuel injectors - follow it to the throttle area.

2 possible places from my experience:

Coming apart where the black tube goes into the rubber elbow -

or at the bottom of the rubber assembly covering the flame trap.

The rubber assembly might be eaten/cracked by the acids - but it is most likely in the bottom where you can't see it. A dentist mirror from the dollar store comes in handy here and many other places.

The black tube seems to get stiff and brittle - and deposits inside it narrowing it - maybe it should be changed together with the flame trap.

My old Ferrari designed Rover V8's with Webers and SU's was nasty at this even with 1" breather tubes - I had to clean the cam covers inside as well.

You can take your carburettors apart - there are lots of good web sites out there with good advice - unfortunately I deleted mine after selling the car...

I still get laughters and disbeliefs when I tell about how I balanced the carbs by putting a tube in each of my ears - but it works, listen for the hiss.....

and a picture of the carbs
