Strut Mount - Shot? 850 1997

Just to be clear.... Are you referring to the strut mount or the rubber spring seat below it? The strut mounts don't normally wear out on 850's. The rubber spring seats do and should be replaced when you change the struts. You might try this. With the strut reinstalled turn the top (gland?) nut with a wrench. If there is resistance it is fine. If it turns freely then the spring seat is shot.

If it turns to be bad spring seats, don't buy the cheapo ones. They won't last long. Go with the OEM Boge or IPD heavy duty (those are indeed expensive!). Or try the OEM XC90 spring seats. Heavier duty than the 850's and they do fit.

FWIW - When I replaced my struts on my 95 855 almost 2 years ago at 200K+ I installed new OEM struts, new OEM Boge spring seats (from you know who:) and new nuts/bolts. No problems thus far!
