850 Head gasket 850

I have a 96 850 (2nd owever) and it needs new head gasket at 144,000 The quote is 1600 (please note that I can't do the work) plus a new timing belt. If this was my 240 I would do it, but my 240 would never need this. Is the 850 worth this investment being this old? Is this a common problem with them?
I bought from original owner, decent shape. I bought it because I loved our 240's, one still going at 250,000.
