Lost all gears shifting? 850

A friend and I went and replaced both front axles in the morning. Had lunch then went for a test drive. It was running fine, axles seemed good and then I went and pushed down the clutch pedal agressively and hit the braqkes to check the anti lock was working, and it was. When I went to start going again, nothing. No gears would engage. So we took the console apart in 90 degree heat and the shift cable and mechanisme seem to be working ok. Then we towed it home with his car.
Later after cooling off I looked further and the master clutch cylinder is leaking on th einside by the pedals. I peeled back the boot and it is dripping, so I believe I blew out a seal, but I don't get any grinding or attempt at engagement at all.
I am going to replace the master, slave and the line for the clutch, but boy could they have put them in a much worse place? They are almost impossible to get at without removing a bunch of stuff.
