misfire, rough start, but no check engine light. V70-XC70 1999

I'm looking at a 1999 Volvo v70 GLT LPT Wagon.
When I started it today at the used car lot it ran extremely rough and seemed to be misfiring?
What would cause this? How can I check this out before I buy the vehicle? I'm looking to find out if I'm getting into a problem vehicle.
Prior owner changed out 3 direct ignition coils and the MAP Sensor and still no luck. How to proceed?
