2007 vs 2009? V70-XC70

I drove a 2007 xc70 today...liked it much better than my 2009. Handled quicker, better fitting seats (for me). Smaller engine, but more p/u. When did Volvo change it's models? Is the 2008 the same as 2007, or 2009? Any feedback on the 2007 model year? I know it's a 'trade down' from my 2009 to a 2007, but the 2007 just 'feels better'.
