One of the first things to go into the body is the rubber/foam floor pan cover. That means everything else must come out before that can be removed.

What you are doing is probably the best way to dry it out. Like I said, I used newspapers and pushed down on the rubber to 'squeeze' water out of the foam. Your car is a lot wetter than mine was.
