Aside from clutch replacement every 60-100K on all my manual cars, I've had four cars that have needed synchros replaced in their manual trannies, including one Toyota that needed them at 60K, and then again at 150K. I am a recent convert to automatic trannies, but I think it is an exageration to believe that manuals are maintenance free.
