S80 compass not working S80 2007

I just bought a used 2007 S80. The mirror doesn't display the direction. I inserted a paper clip in the hole for over three seconds behind the mirror as per the manual instructions in the ignition mode II, but it still wouldn't turn on. What could be wrong with this? Please help!!
