2006 XC70 navigation system can't read disc

Sounds like a head unit failure. I am not an electrician, but a diode gone bad will do that. I doubt it is failure of the DVD or dirt in the system. You are correct, dealers can not FIX it, they can only replace the unit and that gets a little expensive.

You could call a couple of radio repair shops, but they won't come cheap either. Offer to pull the radio for them to reduce the cost?
