I agree. The MXV4's are the BEST all-around tire out there. Expensive, but worth it if you (or in this case your son) plan on keeping the car for a long time. I'm on my fourth set (first on the 850) and nothing I've found is a as good. Last a long time, comfortable ride, secure handling, good in rain and light snow/ice. Should be fine for metro New York driving. I use my MXV4's all year round in S.E. Mass. If your son is driving where there is serious snow then dedicated snow tires are recommended.
