These S70's are "DO DO' S70

I've been owning, driving and working on Volvo Automobiles for over 45 years, so I know a thing or two about them.

I will state unequivocally (I hope that's correct) that in my opinion these S70 Model Volvo's are a nightmare.
I've been trying to straighten out my cousins 99 Model S70 (non-turbo) for about 2 weeks now and I'm so doggone disgusted and dismayed that I can't fully express myself.

What with the "Fly by Wire" throttle module, twin over head cam all aluminum engine with a rubber timing belt that will cause the ultimate destruction of the engine if it breaks, seperate ignition coils for each of the (5) cylinders with each replacement coil costing more than a single coil (like they've always used) and the utter complexity of this car is astounding.

I can't believe that it has a "Volvo" Sticker on it.

I placed a Kit in the Electronic Throttle Module and the engine did start after a no-start condition.
The idle constantly surges from 800 to 1200 rpms and won't accelerate past 3000 rpms. I think this is the "Limp Home Mode".
I cleared all of the fault codes in the computer, and believe it or not, the computer set 14 fault codes in a matter of minutes.
I found a faulty ignition coil on cylinder #2, so I removed it.
What did I find?
The spark plug was completely submerged in motor oil.
If you're familiar with this engine, you'll understand how that can happen.

I still love and drive the "Red Blocks", but I won't buy a new Volvo, Not now or ever.

Just my opinion
steve
