Excessive oil loss but no oil leaks? S70 2000

I'm currently using Mobil 1 10w/30 synthetic oil with the 2.5 N/A engine.

I just did an oil & Filter change at 42,000 miles before driving from England to Germany. At the end of my journey and 3000 miles later I had to add 2 quarts of oil. Something can't be right here! Ever since I've owned the car it has used on an average of 1 to 1 1/2 quarts every 3,000.

could it possibly have anything to do with the oil piston cooling valve the dealership had to replace after only having 5,000 miles on my brand new car? It doesn't blow smoke nor is there anything in the radiator fluid. Could have anything to do with that brand of oil? Any help on subject is greatly appreciated.

Fed up and Confused!!
