No cabin Pollen/Air Filer present 850 1997

I went to check the filer to see if it was dirty. No filter or box. Simply a semi-oval duct.

Question - why did Volvo sell some 850s with and some without the filter/box in question - and should I install one???

If the majority suggests installing one, I will do so. However, bear in mind that we drive around with the sunroof open and windows down quite a bit. But, if there are benefits to installing one, I'll do so.

Thanks in advance,

Barry
