I just finished my *somewhat* anal 60K maintenance on my R-wagon. I flushed the brake fluid, LOF, tire rotation, replaced the fuel filter, air filter, thermostat (which included new coolant), plugs, wires, cap, rotor, new magnetic drain plug for the oil pan, auxiliary drive belt, and timing belt. The local dealer wanted $550 ( 8-0 ) for the service (not including another $275 for the T-belt and serpentine belt). I took my sweet time and it took like 10 hours total with many coffee & B.S.-ing breaks. Grand total for the parts: around $265. I also used it as an excuse to buy some nice tools -- I highly suggest getting the serpentine belt tool from IPD-- works great.
Last year I did the tranny flush using Mobil 1 ATF (at 50K mi).
All I have to say is: Thank you Volvospeed.com! Bay 13 is the absolute best!! Keep up the good work!
A few observations that I made after the work: I'm not sure if it's a placebo effect or not, but the car seems to be stronger now. The thermostat was definitely sticking, because I noticed that it heats up a lot quicker and gets to the 3-o'clock mark unlike before where it was at about 4:30. I also went on a trip and got 2-3 mpg better-- hey I'm not complaining. 25 mpg on a trip at 75-80 mph for 2 hours ain't bad...especially when you have a lead foot!
