rear wiper and (automatic) tailgate lock not working V70-XC70 1998

The rear wiper is not working, nor is the automatic lock on the tailgate, of the V70 we just bought. The door automatic door locks work, just not for the tailgate, and I hear the noise of the washer motor for the rear wiper/washer when I push the button on the stalk, but the wiper doesn't work, and the washer doesn't either. It appears that the fuses are OK, I think. Any thoughts?
