Hey Everyone,
Long time Volvo owner here (grew up with 240's in the family, first car 83' 242ti, current car 94' 855T wagon that we've had for 7 years, 140k to 220K). I do much of my own work and all of my own oil changes. Also somewhat obsessive about keeping the cars clean and well maintained.
We recently moved from Seattle, WA to Bend, OR and with that my wife has acquired a longer commute and the climate went from wet/rain to dry/snow. The 855 has been doing great the last 7 years but it's starting to get older and we will probably start looking at newer vehicles soon. I'll still keep the car as long as it runs since it still pulls hard (IPD ECU) on the highway and I don't think twice about throwing skis on roof and driving over the pass in a snowstorm.
With that, I wanted to hear from people about the V70's, particularly the AWD version before body styles changed. My ideal find would be a nice condition 1998-2000 V70R AWD manual but my wife is only sort of enthused about driving a manual transmission daily (our other car is a 2000 BMW M Roadster). A second choice would be the 1998-2000 V70XC LPT (I would add the IPD ECU), but I've seen reviews all over the map for those ranging from "awesome" "horrible" and wanted to get your thoughts.
I've test driven a 2007 V70R and it was a great car, but at that price I'd start comparing it against what I could find in the used BMW camp.
Here's an example of what I've seen out there;

Thanks again, any feedback is welcome.
