Timimg Belt cam lock tool V50

Hello,
I buddy of mine used the Matco cam lock tool when changing the belt on his S40. I was wondering if I could use this tool to hold the cams when changing my belt. Also if I locked the cams in place and changed the belt, Would I still need to go through the process of aligning the timing marks or should I be ok as long as nohthing has moved
Here is the link to the tool http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/CC4500MK/5-PIECE-MASTER-CAM-CLAMP-KIT/?source=igodigital The tool he used was the red expandable lock

Thanks
