17" Wheels S40-V40 2000

Aside from just making it look good, What other benefits do I get from switching to a 17" wheels? Is it true that the bigger the wheel the heavier it is? And how true is it what the dealer told me that if the wheels are too heavy for the car it might mess up my transmission and repairs will not be covered by warranty. I am looking at a SRS Integral wheels with 205/17 ZR 45 tires. Does anybody know anything about these brands?
