Discarding yourFlame Trap 850 1995

Just bought a replacement flame trap from my local dealer. The parts guy wasn't aware that the 850's had a flame trap. He didn't believe me so he talked with the mechanic at the dealer and was told that the have been instructed to remove the flame traps since the early 90's. Suppose to be a sevice bulletin about it?? Basically because they tend to get clogged and increase the pressure in engine leading to premature wear or just blowing out the rear seal. The same problems exist in the 200 and 700 series. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same advice? And wether complete remocval of the flame trap would cause and future problems?

Thanks

Michael
