AC clutch plate fatigue can I remplace it with compressor in car S60

I may try the bread clip fix first but I kind of like the idea of replacing the AC clutch. It may cost $100 but then it is fixed.

Can the AC clutch plate be removed on the S60 without removing the compressor and / or removing the belt?

I do not think this is an issue of low refrigerant. The AC clutch does not engage after a 15 mile or 30 mile drive. Car sits for a while and clutch will again engage.
