Tire Pressures on 17" wheels V70-XC70 2001

Picked up my white 2.4T V70 two days ago. Georgeous and my first white car. 17" factory wheels/tires (P6 Pirelli) were added by dealer. Just thought I would check the tire pressures today and they ranged between 41 and 44 psi cold. Checked inside of fuel filler door and it said 16". Called dealer and asked what 17" pressures factory recommended. He said read the max psi on side of tire and back off 2 psi. I thought it strange, but my first Volvo so I didn't want to sound too smart, so I go read my P6 tires and it says max pressure 51 psi. So, 51-2 = 49psi. HUH??? I DON'T THINK SO. Does anybody know what the factory recommended tire pressures should be? I do 50/50 freeway and around town, nothing too aggressive. I tend to lean toward ride comfort over slot car handling. I appreciate the help.
