really dead battery 850

I brought battery back to store where I purchased a year ago, and their test showed abt 12.5v, but they gave me a replacement for free..stuck it in the car and still no start. will carefully check ground/alt connections twmr. Is there anything that could have been damaged by leaving the ignition on overnight?
The ignition switch seems fine, not loose or anything. I've heard these starters run almost forever, but my 94 850 is approaching 400k miles so i assume anything is possible.
