If it is indeed the gas cap (doubtful if it was on properly and tight though) then the system will go through a series of tests during certain driving conditions. I assume you didn't fill it up with the engine running..

Depending on the sort of 'mix' of driving you do it may turn off sooner as it can do it's set of tests faster.

If you don't notice any difference in driving then I would drop by at the dealer at some time and have them read out the code. It may be something completely different. If it does feel different when driving then I'd go to a dealer ASAP and have them check it out..
