1987 Volvo 245 Losing Power Intermittently

A typical example: Humming along at 70. Suddenly, car starts to slow down. Floor it, and car continues to slow down. Cruising at about 40 for a minute or two, I figure I'm going to have to pull over as I am becoming a road hazard on the interstate. Car starts to speed up again. Cruise at 70 the rest of the way home. Did I mention this happened in the middle of the world's longest bridge to New Orleans from Mandeville?

This happened around the same time as some wiring troubles to the alternator D+. I have cleaned all the contacts, and my other charging problem is fixed, but this remains. Unfortunately, I replaced the alternator when I probably didn't need to, but wth, I have a new one.

Another issue I'm having that might be related is there is a minor amount of bypass escaping somewhere above the middle of the engine and hitting the hood above, but I haven't figured out where it's coming from yet.

Any ideas on any of this stuff? TIA
